LAKE MERRITT JOGGERS AND STRIDERS

Serving The East Bay's Running Community Since 1977

We're a volunteer-based, nonprofit running club that loves to have fun. We support our diverse running community through training, races, social engagement, and outreach. We foster camaraderie, collaboration, and empowerment within the club and the community.

Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or just starting out, we have a place for you at LMJS. We host regular social runs, trail runs, and training programs for all levels of runners. We also have a race team that is registered with the US Track and Field association.

But LMJS is more than just a running club. We're a community. We love to get together and socialize after runs, and we're always looking for new ways to give back to the community.

So if you're looking for a friendly and fun running club, LMJS is the place for you! Come join us for a run today!

This time around we'll be emphasizing our running, core and strength work equally.  If you already have your gym class or focused weight work during the week and want to spend your weekend running more, this may not be for you.  We will be doing a little bit of a lot of different things.

    BEGINNER RUNNING CLASS

LMJS offers a beginner running class to help individuals prepare for and run comfortably in a 5K(3.1 miles) event. This program is designed for those new to running or who want to improve their endurance in the 3-5 mile distance.

The in-person training sessions start on Saturday, March 22. We will meet in person on five consecutive Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the picturesque Lake Merritt in Oakland. The program's goal race is the fully supported, timed LMJS Fourth Sunday Races on April 2(must register separately).

Group meetings are supportive, fun, and engaging. They cover essential topics such as form, safety, injury awareness, and practicing basic running skills. This five-week training includes a hands-on Saturday meet-up, a training plan, and plenty of online documents and resources to keep you engaged and motivated.

This training fits best for anyone who wants to work up to a 5K and those who wish to restart running again. Advance registration is required for this program, with a minimum enrollment of 20 participants to get the most fun, benefits, and camaraderie.

The cost is $30 for club members and $35 for non-members. To save money, join a great club before registering. You'll also receive discounts on future training and programs and stay connected to a diverse, welcoming, and fun running club.

Feel free to contact  Edmundo Vitocruz, the coach, at vitocruz@aol.com with any questions or to request a fee-assistance registration code. He is a certified running coach under the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA).

LMJS is a non-profit running club with over 48 years of connections in the Bay Area. It is a 100% volunteer organization that supports many local adult and youth running programs by sharing their knowledge, donations, and love of running.

Saturday Meeting Location: Adams Point, Lake Merritt, 568 Bellevue Ave (Grassy Meadow just before you reach the Sailboat House)
