Dear LMJS family and friends,
The violent deaths of African Americans George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others have been horrifying. Our country needs systemic changes to ensure fairness for African Americans in all areas of life.
We condemn racism and support justice and equity for African Americans and all people of color. Our club, founded in 1977, has always welcomed anyone regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, income, or running ability. But with the recent events and hard discussions happening around the country, we are now committing to working towards anti-racism and equity in our society and promoting greater inclusion of black runners and walkers in our club.
Following Ahmaud Arbery’s death, we’ve heard black runners share their stories of harassment and their fears for personal safety when going out for a run. Part of our charge, therefore, is to make running safer for all.
We will work with our parent affiliate Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), other running and fitness organizations, other community partners, and club members to develop concrete plans for change. If you are interested in helping with this effort, or would like to share your ideas, please respond to this email or contact a board member.
LMJS Board of Directors
Congratulations to club members: Juliann Sum, Susan Colborn and Len Goldman for receiving the LMJS Outstanding Volunteer Award for 2019, the RRCA Volunteer Award for contributions to the running community and the LMJS John Momper Award, our highest honor, respectively. We're thankful for all their many contributions to the LMJS Running Club and the running community at large.
Dear Club Members and Visitors to the LMJS website,
Due to the recent orders related to the coronavirus epidemic issued by various government and health agencies, we have decided to cancel or postpone all of our group events through the end of June. All those who preregistered for events that have not already started will receive a refund via PayPal for their fees.
We urge everyone to follow the recommended guidelines to minimize the spread of the virus by avoiding unnecessary group gatherings and practicing “social distancing” while interacting with others.
At the end of June, we will reassess the situation and decide when it is safe to reopen group events. Thank you for your understanding and please follow governmental medical advice and stay healthy!
