Running your first half marathon? Qualifying for Boston? Train with the LMJS Marathon & Half Marathon Training Program, the official training program of the Oakland Running Festival. We will help you go the distance, support your goals, and have fun. On Saturday morning long runs, you’ll discover new locations to run in a supportive and welcoming environment, and enjoy the camaraderie of new running buddies who run at your pace. Train for Oakland or another spring race. Register now! 

Marathon Training Program

  • 18 weeks
  • Begins Monday, November 18, 2019
  • Training program kickoff and first group run on Sunday, November 24 at 8:00 am. Oakland location TBA. (Group runs after the kickoff will be on Saturday mornings.)

Half Marathon Training Program

  • 12 weeks
  • Begins Monday, December 30, 2019
  • First group run on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 8:00 am.
  • Half trainees are encouraged to join group runs with marathon trainees beginning November 24 for more fun and fitness.

*** This is not a "couch to finish line" program. It's expected trainees will be running when the programs begin. ***
Marathon trainees should be running at least 20 miles per week before the program begins. Half marathon tranees should be running at least 12 miles per week before the program begins. Both programs begin with long runs of over 6 miles.
