The 2022 LMJS marathon and half marathon training program wrapped up in March, and we can't wait to train together again starting in November. The 18-week training program starts up in late November 2022 and will get you ready for the March 19, 2023 Oakland Running Festival, or any spring race of your choosing. Whether training for your first half marathon or your tenth marathon, we’ll help you go the distance and support your goals. The program includes a supportive and social community, Saturday group long runs, online training platform, weekly training run schedule, and more. You do not need to be an LMJS member to join the program...yet we'd love to have you benefit from our membership perks, including discounted program fee. Registration will go live in September.

Marathon Training Program

  • 18 weeks
  • Begins mid-late November 2022

Half Marathon Training Program

  • 12 weeks
  • Begins late December 2022
  • Half trainees are encouraged to join program with marathon trainees in November for more fun and fitness.


  • Saturday morning training runs at various locations (majority in the East Bay)
  • Pace groups for most paces (7 minute/mile to 13 minute/mile) with experienced leaders and RRCA-certified running coaches  
  • An online training platform to plan, record, and analyze your runs and other workouts 
  • Continuous camaraderie, training tips, and advice; in-person and in a Slack group
  • Detailed training schedule, with beginner and advanced levels
  • Preview of the Oakland Running Festival marathon/half marathon courses
  • Virtual events with guest speakers on running-related topics
  • Weekly track/speed workout offered

  • Run with others who run at your pace – you'll make new running friends, learn from others’ experiences, and enjoy the long runs!

*** Note: This is not a "couch to finish line" program. To get the most out of the program, we highly recommend trainees already be running mileage as follows when the program begins:
Marathon trainees: at least 20 miles per week
Half marathon trainees: at least 12 miles per week
Both marathon and half marathon programs begin with long runs of 6+ miles.
