Join the LMJS Marathon & Half Training Program, the official training program for the Oakland Marathon since the race began in 2010. We'll get you ready for the March 2025 race, or any spring race of your choosing. We've trained thousands of runners of all levels — from first-timers to experienced runners — and helped them meet their personal goals and cross the finish line. Learn from experienced coaches and pacers, get training tips, and enjoy the long runs with others at your pace! Register now.

Marathon Training Program

  • 18 weeks
  • Training schedule begins week of November 18, 2024
  • Marathon Training Kickoff: Saturday, November 23, 2024

Half Marathon Training Program

  • 12 weeks
  • Training schedule begins week of December 30, 2024
  • Half Marathon Training Kickoff: Saturday, January 4, 2025
  • Optional: Half trainees are encouraged to join earlier in November/December for more fun and fitness

Program includes:

  • Detailed weekly training schedule, with beginner and advanced levels
  • Online training program to plan, record, and analyze your runs 
  • Saturday group runs at various locations; majority in the East Bay
  • Pace groups from 7:30 minute/mile to 13+ minute/mile
  • Experienced pacers and RRCA-certified running coaches
  • Supportive and social community, in person and online
  • Training and fueling tips 
  • Guest speakers on running-related topics
  • Weekly track/speed workout

Note: This is not a "couch to finish line" program. Both marathon and half marathon programs begin with long runs of 6+ miles. To get the most out of the program, we highly recommend marathon trainees already be running 20 miles per week when the program begins and half marathon trainees at least 12 miles per week.
This program is geared for adults. Participants must be at least 15 years of age.
