LAKE MERRITT JOGGERS AND STRIDERS

Serving The East Bay's Running Community Since 1977

We're a volunteer-based, nonprofit running club that loves to have fun. We support our diverse running community through training, races, social engagement, and outreach. We foster camaraderie, collaboration, and empowerment within the club and the community.

Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or just starting out, we have a place for you at LMJS. We host regular social runs, trail runs, and training programs for all levels of runners. We also have a race team that is registered with the US Track and Field association.

But LMJS is more than just a running club. We're a community. We love to get together and socialize after runs, and we're always looking for new ways to give back to the community.

So if you're looking for a friendly and fun running club, LMJS is the place for you! Come join us for a run today!

    SATURDAY - MARCH 8th 2025

    from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

    at Temescal Works in Oakland

    490 43rd Street Oakland, CA 94609

Let's gather and celebrate the accomplishments of our club, each member, and friends, and acknowledge some of the essential contributions we made in 2024 for our running community! We are returning to Temescal Works for a second year, which provides an excellent space for communal conversations, photo ops, presentations, and fun vibes. This event is open to club members and their family and friends.

The plan for the evening includes recognizing some well-deserving volunteers, socializing, making new friends, catching up with each other, playing fun games, and doing some singing/dancing. You'll need to register online to help us organize and plan for setup. Online reservations will be open until we reach a maximum capacity and closes Wed. 3/5.

    The registration includes:

    • The main course and vegetarian favorites selected from Chinese cuisine.

    • Wine/beer/soda beverages

Knowing how many busy bakers we have in the club, desserts will be potluck style! Contact Marty via email: martybeene@comcast.net if you'd like to make and bring something.

If the event cost may prevent you from attending, please email our social director, Marty Beene, with any questions or feedback you may have.

We are grateful to all our members, volunteers, and community supporters who work together to make LMJS a great club after 48 years, and with a bright future ahead! We look forward to seeing you on this special occasion.

Parking - metered ends at 6 pm; street parking around residential; don't leave valuables in plain sight.

    Best regards,

    LMJS Board

2025 Sunday AM TRAIL FITNESS TRAINING PROGRAM

Coming back from injury?  Not feeling as strong up hills as you did just a few years ago?  Come get your heart pumping and legs moving doing some circuits with us.

This time around we'll be emphasizing our running, core and strength work equally.  If you already have your gym class or focused weight work during the week and want to spend your weekend running more, this may not be for you.  We will be doing a little bit of a lot of different things.

    _______________________________________________________________

Improve your strength, form, and agility as you take your running to the trails. Runners of all speeds and experience with the ability to run a 2-3 miles will benefit the most from the program.

We'll be running in different locations in the East Bay hills working on the ups and downhills while building strength to lift your feet off the ground.

Running Ability : Please feel comfortable running at least 2 miles before the start of the program.

    Cost:

$50 LMJS members, $55 non-members (join LMJS Running Club before registering for savings throughout the year).

Meeting Place: Various locations to be announced by weekly email mostly in East Bay trails west of Oakland.

Time: 8:30-10:00 am for 5 Sunday sessions

Instructor : LMJS Board Member Training Director and Racing Team Co-founder, Jeanine Bourcier Holmlund is a USATF certified level 3 distance coach and level 2 sprint, as well as an RRCA level 2 coach. She coaches the Hayward High School and Chabot College cross-country and track & field distance squads. Jeanine organized the first LMJS trail training programs in 2011.

Contact : training@lmjs.org with any questions about the program.
