THE FIRST XC RACE OF THE SEASON! Description by Len Goldman:
Race distance is 4 miles.  Allow extra time to wind your way through campus, park and walk to the start area.  As I recall the start area is about a 1/2 mile from where you park,so take everything you will need with you.  I think there are porta potties at the start.  This is a pretty run, through the woods on a hillside and much of the course is shaded.  The running surface is all dirt, fire road and trails, as I recall.  The start area is pretty confined and be prepared to "eat dirt" as the crowd at the start will kick up quite a bit of dust.  The first mile is an uphill pull, not severe but it gets your attention.  Around the one mile mark you enter a clearing and run around a grassy field and then head back the way you entered. The remainder of the race is either downhill or flat.  Watch out for roots.  The finish line comes up around a corner and you might be advised to try and check out the last half mile or so before the start of the race. I would rate the difficulty of this course as moderate.
