First Class This Session is Saturday, November 19

LMJS will be offering a beginning running program this fall to help you get ready to jog/walk a 5K! This program is designed for those who want to work up to a 5K which is 3.1 miles.

These training sessions will be held for four consecutive Saturdays at 10:00am with a 5K race the fifth week and will involve a $30 fee for LMJS member or $35 for non-members. LMJS members: be sure to sign in before registering to get your discount.

Our runs will sample a few of the gorgeous East Bay area trails. The first class will be held Saturday, November 19th at 10:00 am. The class w ill culminate with the Dam Jingle Bell Dash, a 5K race at the San Pablo Reservoir to be held on Saturday, December 17th (race fee extra).

Our first class on Saturday, Nov 19 will meet at the new parking area at the Bay Bridge! It is on the Oakland side, so no need to pay tolls. They have a small 'bleacher' area with a little stage in front of it that will work great for our class. And we'll get to see the pretty part of the bridge with its unobstructed views.

Parking is available at a Bay Bridge Trail parking lot at Caltrans’ historic Bridge Yard building at 210 Burma Road, Oakland. Directions are as followed: from Maritime Road follow the orange construction signs that read “Bay Bridge Trail Parking Lot” for approximately ½ mile down the winding Burma Road. Make a right where directed and continue to follow the signage to enter the parking lot. The signs lead drivers to the new temporary Bay Bridge Trail Parking lot.  This lot has over 70 parking slots, so we should be fine.

If you pop the address above into google maps, it seems to take  you pretty much there.

At each class, we'll cover topics such as running shoes, running form, safety, injury prevention and hydration and nutrition along the way.

We'll provide training schedules, maps, and lots of encouragement. You'll need to come ready to run every Saturday with a water bottle and towel for the end.

Check out the class outline to see the topics to be covered.

This training is appropriate for anyone who wants to work up to a 5K and for those who haven't run for awhile and want to begin again. RSVP required for this program, with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 30 participants, to keep things manageable.

It's not too late! Come join the fun! E-mail Karen Andrews (runducksrun@gmail.com) with questions about the program.
